Unlocking the Social Media Mystery
Many find social media marketing intimidating due to its complex nature, involving various components like branding, SEO, analytics, and more. However, it doesn't need to be daunting; in fact, it should be enjoyable. To kick things off, let's begin by discussing what social media marketing isn't.
What Social Media Marketing Isn’t:
Going Viral - Viral content often generates a spike in attention, but it's usually short-lived. The rapid surge in interest may not translate into long-term engagement or customer loyalty.
Posting - Posting random content just to have something on-the-line doesn’t translate to a marketing strategy.
Having a Big Following - Often followers don’t = customers. You want to create loyal customers not followers.
Only for Sales - People get bombarded with ads. According to Forbes we see 4,000 - 10,000 ads a day. While there is a time and place for everything sales should not be the only thing you try to do with your social media accounts.
So now that we know what social media marketing isn’t. What exactly is it?
It’s a conversation.
Before you write me off, hear me out. Social media marketing centers around trust-building, and how do you establish trust? Through conversation. Initiate the dialogue with your customers; don't wait for them to take the first step. Why should they choose your shop over competitors? This is a conversation you should be actively engaging in on your social channels. I'm not suggesting you declare superiority over others; there's room for everyone. Instead, showcase what sets you apart. Perhaps your shop has a more humorous side than the one down the street. Let that shine on social media—don't shy away from being authentic. Authenticity is the most effective way to kick off any conversation, whether it's digital or face-to-face.
